Some fairs are enjoyed in passing, and others are worth staying for. The <strong>Real Fair of Priego de C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong> belongs to the latter: six days of casetas, sevillanas, concerts and traditions preserved since 1842, in a town that is also one of the jewels of Andalusian Baroque.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year it will take place from<strong> Monday, 31 August<\/strong>, to Saturday, 5 September 2026, keeping its traditional dates. Its origin dates back to <strong>1842<\/strong>, when it was primarily a livestock trading market attended by travelling merchants, circuses and conjurers. Everything else came later \u2014 the lanterns arrived afterwards.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today it is considered the major<strong> fair of southern C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong>, welcoming neighbours from across the region, from the aldeas and from the cortijos. At <strong>22:00<\/strong> comes the lighting of the <strong>extraordinary illumination<\/strong> \u2014 the most photographed moment of the week. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City Council moved the parade and the lighting ceremony forward a few editions ago precisely for this reason: before, people reached the fairground close to midnight and the children were already exhausted. Now the first day goes much further. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sole Siles<\/strong> performs at 22:30 h in the Municipal Caseta, followed by <strong>Planeta 80<\/strong> at 00:15 h. One practical detail worth noting: conditions and ticket sales depend on each attraction, so it\u2019s best to ask at each one. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong><strong>19:30 h, free children\u2019s snack<\/strong><\/strong> at the Municipal Caseta, accompanied by a<strong> face\u2011painting show<\/strong>. Between<strong> 19:00 and 21:00<\/strong>, both the attractions and the casetas lower their sound during the so\u2011called <strong>quiet period,<\/strong> making it easier for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and those with higher auditory sensitivity to take part. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a measure Priego has kept for several editions, turning that time slot into the calmest moment of the entire fair \u2014 also ideal for anyone attending with very young children. It\u2019s the very origin of the celebration \u2014 the fair was born from this in 1842 \u2014 and it\u2019s worth a visit even if you don\u2019t know anything about horses. Go in the morning: that\u2019s when the real movement happens.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From <strong>22:00 h<\/strong>, \u201cLa Alegr\u00eda\u201d hosts the <strong>XLVII Concurso de Trovos Feria Real Ciudad de Priego<\/strong> in the former Youth Caseta, one of the most storied and traditional competitions of the entire fair. After the certamen, the night continues with the performance of <strong>Streets Cats,<\/strong> que mantiene el ambiente hasta bien entrada la madrugada.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the final burst at the Municipal Caseta: <strong>Los Vynilos <\/strong>at 00:15 h with their repertoire of classic versions, followed by L\u00e9rica at 01:30 h, delivering the <strong>last big show of the week<\/strong>. And the extraordinary Feria Real edition of <em>Adarve<\/em> \u2014the local bi\u2011weekly founded in 1952\u2014 publishes each year its special issue with the full programme. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:60px;margin-bottom:30px\">What\u2019s typical to do at the Priego Fair<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re coming from outside Priego and don\u2019t want to just wander around the fairground, these are the customs that make Priego\u2019s fair Priego\u2019s fair.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:30px\">Dressing in flamenco attire on Thursday<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Flamenco Dress Day isn\u2019t a tourist gimmick: half of Priego dresses up. Even if you\u2019re not competing, it\u2019s the day when the fairground looks its best and when people dance the most sevillanas. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:30px\">Watching the lighting switch on from the very beginning<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the Gigantes y Cabezudos with the charanga all the way to the fairground and waiting for the lighting to switch on. Ten minutes of pure celebration that are worth the whole first night. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:30px\">Visiting the Livestock Fair in the morning<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, in Los Almendros. Dealers, horses and conversations that have been repeating themselves since 1842. It\u2019s the most authentic part of the fair, and the one least known to visitors from outside.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:30px\">Listing to trovos<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trovos Contest is now in its 47th edition. Improvised, sung verse performed live.
